Sony has brought out three Bravia television sets which are aimed at those who want to save electricity for either environmental or economic reasons, but still want a large flat-screen TV. The KDL-52VE5, KDL-46VE5 and KDL-40VE5 Bravia VE5 models include a range of functions which should all help towards significantly reducing the sets’ energy consumption. This doesn’t affect the models’ 120Hz image rate, 24p picture mode and Full HD resolution however. Saving can also be fun!

Instead of CCFL technology, the Bravia VE5 series uses HCFL – this alternative lighting method should use only 40% of the energy needed by other Sony Bravia LCD models.

Sony also put thought into the standby mode. Switching these models off on the set itself takes the energy consumption down to almost zero. The Bravia KDL-52VE5, KDL-46VE5 and KDL-40VE5 also know to adjust their brightness to the surroundings, giving an optimal contrast ratio is darker environments, as well as saving electricity.

The movement sensor is a feature which, although maybe a bit creepy, is actually very practical. The TV can tell when all those watching it have left the room and can switch itself on and off. The VE5 models are available in 52, 46 and 40inch versions. They all comply with the Energy Star 3.0 regulations. Besides four HDMI ports, they also have PC, USB, Components, S-video and composite ports. The price of these models is not known at this time.
